After Papyrus was done dealing with the trash, he made his way towards Sans. In an unamused fashion, he hovered above him tapping his foot. "DISHES WHO?"
His face scrunched up, obviously happy. Papyrus was indulging him on a knock-knock joke. This was great. It was a rare treat, and sans wasn't about to let it go to waste. Even the unamused stare he earned from his bro made him happy. What a cool guy. Sans wouldn't know where he'd be without such a great bro to listen to his puns and knock-knock jokes. Maybe Papyrus was onto something. It'd get pretty lonely without his always cheerful brother around. Maybe... Maybe sans would give this experience a chance. A half chance, but a chance nonetheless. "dishes the start of our journey bro. are you soap excited?"
Sans had said it. He said the joke. Everything was terrible. Not only did he make the joke he was expecting, he added a soap pun. Way to rub the bubbles into the wound. Of course, in a very Papyrus fashion, he started to scream once more. "SANS, DISHES A HORRIBLE A HORRIBLE WAY TO START AN ADVENTURE! YOU SIR NEED TO WASH YOUR MOUTH WITH SOAP AND WASH AWAY THOSE BAD JOKES." Of course, Papyrus did notice the use of 'our' instead of 'your' there.
And he appreciated it.
But the rage blinded him. There was a time and place for jokes and it wasn't now! This was serious business. "AAAAA, NOW GET UP! WE HAVE A JOURNEY TO GET STARTED!" Gently, Papyrus shoves Cubone over towards Sans and then hoisted the massive thing up and put it on. Most people would think it was heavy and filled with junk, but this was fine. "GO, GO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Sans' eyes were squinted with happiness when Papyrus adapted the pun to use in his own sentence. What a cool bro. Even tells jokes back. He could have continued the onslaught of jokes, but refrained from doing so. "gimme a sec bro." Sans motioned for Bonehead to follow him, and he did.
The duo walked (trio if you count Time sleeping on sans' hood) back up the stairs into their home. "grab whatcha need, bonehead. we're not gonna be comin' back for a little bit." He looked up at his trainer for a moment before toddling off to sans' room. Sans grabbed his pokeballs off of the nearby counter, plus a couple extra, and put them into his pocket. He didn't need a belt to put them on; his pockets were big enough to hold them.
Cubone came back, bone in his grip. Sans gave a look to ask if that was it, and Bonehead nodded. They gave one more glance at their home of ten years, and then strolled back down the stairs. "alright we're ready." He looked at his excited bro hanging by the front door. Sans had to make sure Papyrus had the right pair of boots on. He plucked an empty, unregistered pokeball out of his pocket and tossed it to him without warning.
Papyrus halted mid-step as his brother asked him to wait, so he did. He waited in that exact position, counting the exact amount of seconds it was taking Sans. This was not a sec. This was about 500 secs.
"COME ON SANS! THAT WAS 504 S-WH-" He hardly had time to react and think about the pokeball flying in his direction. He tried to spin on his foot and kick with the foot that was in the air, but it narrowly missed the toes of his boots and snapped onto the magnetic, Pokeball holders on his boots. With the weight of the bag and shock, Papyrus couldn't maintain his already horrible balance.
"SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANS!" The bag was so large it held him up in the air by the straps, and Papyrus was left wiggling about. Toby just walked up to him, sniffing the newly added Pokeball on his boot before sitting down, drooling with a dumb look on his face. Papyrus' flailing feet were narrowly missing the Pokemon, and it didn't seem like he knew how to get up on his own. How unfortunate.
How unfortunate indeed. Sans blinked once, twice, three times, before doubling over in laughter. This wasn't helpful, no, but sans couldn't do much of anything else. "oh my- oh my god bro. you should- you- you should see the look on- on your face." He managed his way over to his bro, took one glance at Papyrus' face, and then started laughing again. Bonehead was laughing along in his own way, having to sit down so he didn't fall over.
"ok- ok- ok, lemme just-" he moved over to his bro's flailing feet, taking care not to get kicked. The situation though kept his laughter going, even after it should have been long since over. This was the perfect opportunity to tease his bro, to give him an endless stream of puns and jokes about his current predicament. Sans, in a rare moment of realization, figured they really should get on the road. Cubone thought this too, as he waddled over and placed himself by Papyrus' other leg. It didn't stop them both from erupting into another giggle fit however.
"ok pap stop movin' for like, three seconds. ready bonehead?" Sans' Pokemon nodded, and- "one, two, three" -they managed to pull the taller brother out of the backpack straps.
The laughter erupting from Sans only caused him to flail even more in an indescribable rage. How could Sans find this funny!? This wasn't funny! This was a horrible accident and they really needed to get going! Now! The last thing he needed was to fall on his back and hold this adventure. That was Sans' job, not his.
"SANS, STOP... STOP LAUGHING! THIS ISN'T FUNNY!" Maybe he did want to bonk his brother on the head 'accidentally yet gently' with his flailing, but that wasn't going to get him anywhere. So he stopped, although his body was telling him to flail some more, but he didn't. He stopped and waited until he could get up on his own.
Wowie. He didn't even think of just pulling his arms out of the backpack slots. That was genius! How did Sans' think of it? He'll never know.
"FREEDOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!" Papyrus was hopping up and down enthusiastically as soon as he was out. The house was shaking from his wild movements and the furniture was moving. It didn't last long as he quickly picked up the giant bag one again and darted through the door, almost kicking it off the hinges, and Toby speeding out right behind him. "OKAY, NOW, LET'S GO, GO, GOOOOO-"
In a rare moment, he stopped dead. He stared up at the house and bar they had been given. It was home, and he had never left before. Before Sans had been rustled awake, he had said goodbye to everything he cared about in the place, but he had yet to look at the outside. So, this was the last time for a while. The last time he'd be able to see the comfort of this place.
Sans watched his bro sprint right through the door, Toby hot in his heels. He turned to his Cubone and knelt down to his level. "you ready bud?" His hand patted the top of Bonehead's head, and the starter nuzzled into it. "this is it. creation day. the day we go on our journey." Cubone looked curiously at his trainer, at the very subtle change in attitude towards the upcoming adventure. He nodded, replying with a small 'cubone-bone cu.' "you ready to say bye to the bar?" He nodded again, a little more insistent. The bone poked sans in the chest, as if asking him the same question. Sans only smiled.
Satisfied, the duo walked out of the door after Papyrus. Time gave a small, high-pitched whine at being outside. "alright. time to go in your ball then." The Zubat vanished in a flash of light, and sans took a look at the exterior of Grillby's. The past years have been kind to the bar and house, but now it was time to leave. only temporary, sans reassured himself. He couldn't very well abandon his adoptive father's gift to them. No. They'd come back. That was a promise, and sans didn't make promises. "thanks grillbz. for everythin' you did." Sans closed the gap between the door and himself, and locked it with his key. He gave the handles a couple pats, as if to comfort the building.
"c'mon papyrus. let's get this journey goin'." He turned away from the bar and grabbed Papyrus' shoulder. "and dishes a great way to start the adventure. you just need to keep a leg up on everythin' or your backpack is gonna kick your butt." That smirk was back, accompanied by the mischievous pun glint in sans' eyes.
Toby started to yelp which caught Papyrus' attention. Otherwise he would have probably just stood there for hours longer. How many hours? Who knew. Who ever knew with Papyrus. Unfortunately for him though Papyrus' was focused now and heard the onslaught of horrible jokes and laughs in his manner.
And so he screeched at the top of his lungs. It was a wonder how anyone would be able to deal with him in new towns. Jant Town? Most of Jant Town had been used to this since the moment Papyrus learned his first word.It was a daily occurrence for Papyrus to screech at the top of his lungs. This was normal. Without the two odd brothers, the town may get quite boring. Well, a little more boring. They still had a wild Gym Leader to keep the town interesting.
Yes, only temporary. Papyrus would have to come back at some point. He was sure to get home sick, but at least he wouldn't get Sans sick. Maybe that was a bad thing.
"SANS, STOP STARTING THIS JOURNEY IN A HORRIBLE MANNER! PLEASE JUST BE SERIOUS FOR ONCE! AAAAAAAAAAA!" Maybe lifting him would shut him up. It usually worked. "GET UP, LET'S GO!" In one fell-swoop, Papyrus lifted Sans up onto his shoulders above the backpack. Another common occurrence that wouldn't happen in the town of Jant without the two of them around. "I WILL KEEP MY LEG UP, I WILL NOT GET MY BUTT KICKED BY A BACKPACK!... AGAIN. AND STOP WITH THE DISHES STUFF! IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!"
Sans immediately relaxed once he was atop Papyrus' shoulders. Taking a moment to adjust himself, he got into a comfortable spot and leaned against his bro's head. Bonehead looked up at his trainer, happy at this turn of events. He gave a quick 'cu bone-bone' to the older brother at sans being thrown onto his shoulder to attempt to share his gratefulness, and made his way to stand next to Toby. Here they were, about to go on a journey and meet new people, and new Pokemon. Cubone was excited.
Sans was busy dozing off with a genuine smile - not like Papyrus could see it. He managed to slide his key to Grillby's into his brother's backpack. His now-empty hand reached up to his beanie, seeking just the smallest amount of comfort from it. This was it; they were leaving Jant to go on his brother's journey. By extension, his own journey as well. "i know bro," he answered finally. "just an accident. don't sound so shattered about it, i forgive you." Any words after that fell on deaf ears as sans completely dozed off, comfortable and content.
There was a bunch of retorts Papyrus wanted to make towards his brother. Of course he had to add just a single, final pun into the mix, but he knew fighting back was useless. This always happened the moment Sans was on his shoulders. He'd doze off and lull into sleepyland. Not that it was hard for Sans to fall asleep, but Papyrus was pretty sure he felt safer sleeping there. Odd, because it was probably the most risky of falling off.
Papyrus was super careful though and wouldn't allow Sans to fall. No harm would come to him if he could help it. Papyrus would be super duper careful with his delicate brother.
This was probably the easiest way to get a good amount of distance on the start of their adventure. Sans would be slow and making a ton of jokes at Papyrus' expense if he was awake. It'd take them forever just to get to the caves. With this option, Sans got to sleep comfortably and Papyrus would get to move at a relatively quick pace. Quick enough to get somewhere, slow enough to let his brother sleep.
He took one last glance over his shoulder, taking in the sight of Grillby's. This was goodbye for now. Then he was off, saying goodbye to the sights of Jant Town and walking off onto the start of their adventure. Wowie! He sure was excited about all the possibilities, the sights, the people and Pokemon.
