The front door burst open as the short brunette jumped the few front steps to the path leading to the sidewalk, his mother standing in the doorway as the boy's Houndour muscled past her to bound after the boy.
"Eli!" She barked, causing him to pause by the gate, Aodh standing wiggling beside him excitedly," You'd better keep up with callin' me once you settle in for a night."
"I will, I will. You made me promise every chance you got last night," Eli huffed, shifting his bag on his shoulder," I swear I won't forget. Aodh might though." He grinned as the Houndour howled before stopping short and snorting with a frown up at his trainer. The little brunette shrugged as he waved farewell to his mother once more before taking off down the street at a sprint.
There'd been announcements on the tv all morning for the planned festivities of the city. Parades, some concert at the gym... But Eli was far more interested in finally escaping the confines of the city. He wanted to see further down the routes than just within view of the gates. His chest swelled with excitement and he picked up the pace. So far it seemed most of the residence were elsewhere in the city preparing for the day, which allowed him and Aodh to run at full sprint through the streets. At least so long as someone didn't accidentally step out of somewhere. It wouldn't be the first time.
Amanita was excited. Not only did she just obtain a new Pokemon (the nurse inside the Pokemon Center had called it a Foongus, and notified her that the tiny mushroom was a female), but she had also seen so many of the festivities from inside of the Pokemon Center. Wow. Now that she was old enough, and mature enough (which Ama prided herself on, but her Breloom would very much state otherwise) to go wandering on her own, she was totally going to go participate! No mom fretting over her well-being, chiding her on holding "the shroomish". No dad fussing over the dangers of her little mushroomy friend. None of that garbage. It was just her, Brebre, and her newest companion which still had to be given a name.
Deep in thought, Amanita turned towards the Foongus sitting on her shoulder currently coo-ing something into her hair. She blew the bangs out of her eyes for a temporary relief in her vision. "Hey miss Foongus, do you have any ideas on what I can name you?" At being addressed, she turned towards her trainer and made a small, peeping noise. Ama just smiled at the answer. "Peepers? Is that what-" The Foongus shook its head the best it could, and turned to bury her face back into the red mop that surrounded her.
"Ok, ok, no nicknaming you Peepers." She continued the conversation with the tiny mushroom on her shoulder, so engrossed in the noises it made, that outside noises had nearly faded. Amanita turned the corner onto a different street, completely unaware of the other kid and his Houndour mere feet away from crashing into her.
Eli enjoyed running, he enjoyed feeling his lungs heave air in and out and the sound of his feet on the sidewalk. He could hear his Houndour panting excitedly along side him as he easily kept stride. At the rate he was running it wouldn't be easy to stop, or at least it wouldn't be a clean one. And it certainly wasn't when a girl suddenly stepped right in his path.
A loud shout escaped him as he tried to stumble to a halt, Aodh letting out a bark of warning as he easily skirted the human. Something Eli had more trouble with. He made a sudden stop only to trip and crash into the other to which he quickly jumped off and to the side with a slew of apologies.
"You ok? Course you're not I just knocked you over," He muttered something under his breath as he quickly got to his feet and thrust out his hand to help the other up with his ears threatening red," Sorry." The houndour trotted up to stand beside him, panting happily and looking between the two curiously.
She certainly hadn't expected to be bowled over like that. First real day, Creation Day no less, and she already had such an eventful encounter. Amanita was only the slightest bit dazed as she accepted his hand to help her up. She blew the bangs out of her face for another temporary reprieve in her vision, and looked at him with quite the smile.
"I'm- I'm ok. Wow! You were running real fast, I didn't even see you!" She'd be hard pressed to admit that she wasn't paying attention. Which she totally was. Yeah. Her bangs had just gotten in her way. That's it. She turned for a moment to see if her Foongus was ok, but nearly panicked when she wasn't there. The panic was unfounded however as her Breloom came to stand at her side, carrying the small mushroom. She peeped in his arms. Amanita gave a very grateful nod to her starter, and then turned back towards the boy.
"Don't be sorry, silly! I walked in front of you. Are you ok?" She moved her bangs out of the way to get a good look at him. "You were the one running fast. Are you hurt? Oh! Sorry! My name's Amanita! If that's too long you can call me Ama. It's my nickname. My sister gave it to me. I like it. It's a lot shorter than my real name. How's your Creation Day going so far? Even though it's kind of early I guess. Oh! Are you starting your journey today? Is that why you were running?" She gave a couple of huffs in-between the words, but didn't stop her rambling. It was actually kind of impressive how it almost sounded like one entire run-on sentence. The Breloom at her side looked down at the Houndour, ignoring his trainer and studying the dog instead.
The duo both stood in relative silence, Eli opening his mouth before closing it again when the girl just- Kept talking. He really wasn't very used to it. His mother would have conversations with him and he did know a few kids from the neighborhood who liked to talk, but this speed? He was almost impressed if it wasn't for the fact he hadn't gotten a word in since the start of her ramble. How did you even go about joining in in this situation? Just start talking? But from her speed she could probably talk over him and not realize it. His houndour, meanwhile, seemed absolutely enthralled with the stream of words escaping the human's mouth.
"Uh- Ya," the brunette started once the girl finally gave him an opening, though he wasn't quite sure what part he was replying to," I wanted to get out of the city before all the crowds set in, so we were running for the fun of it, I guess. I'm Eli and this is Aodh." The canine pokemon gave a sudden bark at the sound of his name instantly starting to wag his little stump of a tail excitedly at being addressed.
Ama nodded at the nondescript answer. It did leave a lot of her questions unanswered sure, but she took the yes as answering her "Are you starting your journey today?" strand of questions. That's what mattered. Starting ones journey was very important. She blew her bangs out of her eyes once more with a huff. "Nice to meet you Eli!" Amanita turned to the Pokemon at his side. "Aodh, huh? They're so cute!" She knelt down to stare at the houndour with a grin. Her hand extended and beckoned him over. The gesture promised pets and scratches. "Is Aodh your starter? What kind of Pokemon are they?"
With her free hand she gestured to the Pokemon at her side. "This is Brebre. He's my starter. And this is Foongus," she pointed at the tiny mushroom in Breloom's hands. "I'm trying to figure out what to name her, but I can't think of one. She doesn't want to be called Peepers." At the return of that name said Pokemon let out a couple of squeaks of outrage. Breloom muttered something to calm her down. Amanita's grin grew, but she didn't peel her covered eyes off of the dog at Eli's side.
The offered hand may as well have been an offer of a life time supply of food for how the pokemon reacted. A happy bark and Aodh was up close to the trainer, sniffing at her bangs curiously with his tail wagging hard enough to shake his whole back end. Eli couldn't help an amused huff at the sight as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"Ya he's my starter- He's a Houndour my mum got for me for my birthday but she wanted me to wait before I left for my journey," He noted, glancing at the two pokemon accompanying the girl," When did you get your starter? Mus've been a while ago." He'd seen some kids before that had a pokemon but were still to young to travel. Maybe she was the same way.
There was no time wasted. Once the houndour was within arms reach, she utilized both of her hands to give him maximum scratches. On his back, behind his ears, under his chin, everywhere that she could reach. "Who's a good boy? Who's a good boy?" She halted in her ministrations for just a second, one second exactly, and then resumed with a happier, excited tone. "You are! Oh, you are!"
She tore her eyes off of Aodh and looked at Eli. "When'd I get Brebre? I found him-" Breloom gave a quick noise of indignation; the last thing he wanted was his shroomish years brought up. Amanita kept going however and ignored his protests. "-causing trouble for our neighbors when he was a little Shroomish. He was always getting into trouble, so I just picked him up and took him home. Mamma and Dad weren't happy and neither was Brebre, but I refused to give him up. And now he's a Breloom that doesn't get into trouble! Isn't that right, Brebre?" He only huffed in response, looking away. Ama gave Aodh one more scratch, and then bounced up.
"Oh! I have an idea! Which route were you gonna start on? We can race there!" She shifted from one foot to the next, obviously excited at the possible prospect of running with her new friend. Breloom perked up. He hadn't really had a good run in a while, and this kid looked fast. "And then we can- we can exchange phone numbers! How- how does that sound?"
