Following up on the progress of adopted Pokémon was one of Tiel's favourite jobs. Well, other than playing with the Pokémon still in his care. And making food for them. And grooming them. And pretty much everything else that his work entailed. But he really did enjoy it. Getting to see Pokémon that he'd once cared for, glowing with health and happiness, after having such a rough start in life... He really did love this place. Sometimes he couldn't remember why he wanted to leave.
In any case, that day's scheduled meet-up was the reason why Tiel was bouncing on his heels behind the front desk, and why he had such a big grin plastered on his face. Any time soon, he'd get to see one of the old Pokémon again. A Smeargle adopted a few years back by someone from Adithan Town. A, er, girl. Welp, hopefully this wasn't going to be too awkward. ...He knew it was going to be awkward. He couldn't talk to women. It didn't matter who or why - if he wasn't already friends with them, he completely clammed up. His smile was already starting to droop, the bouncing of heels slowing to a standstill.
This called for desperate measures. He scooped up the two Pokémon that were playing behind the counter (or at least as much as Espurrs ever played - Coco was doing little more than stare at the Eevee that gambolled around her making little play-bows to try and initiate some game). Pokémon weren't normally supposed to sit on the counter, but it was something that Tiel did quite often anyway. Ruffling Coco with one hand and Nico with the other helped settle his nerves. Within a minute he had resumed his bouncing, albeit more slowly than before.
"Do you remember the Smeargle, Coco? I don't know if you were here back then..." Coco simply stared back and tried to bat his hand away. "And you definitely weren't," he told Nico as his fingers combed through the thick plume of fur around the Eevee's neck. "So you're making a new friend today. Yaaay, new friend!" he added in the squeaky voice he always used when narrating (what he pretended were) Nico's innermost thoughts.
