Personality:
Gina is an bubbly ball of sunshine. Her energy knows no bounds, and neither does her determination. Even approaching her 30s, she's very childish and excitable, always looking for adventure. She's got a one-track mind and works hard to achieve her goals. She's a sweet girl, always willing to help out, but personal space is an issue for her. Both physically and emotionally. Her filter isn't the best, and sometimes she can say some things that are a bit.. Well.. Questionable.
People describe her as "flighty", as she's a bit all over the place... And, you know, because she's very enthusiastic about birds. There's never a time she's not willing to try something new, and she often goes out seeking new things to do. New foods to eat. New hobbies to try. She'll do just about anything. You could ask her to go check out a dumpster and she'd race you to it.
Aside from the sunshine, Gina's prone to passive aggression. She does a lot of things out of spite and holds grudges for years. She's small, but she's got a big voice and she's not afraid to use it. It's not often that something upsets her, in fact she's very patient most days, but it's best to move out of the way when it happens.
Background:
Gina was born and raised nestled in the Sadda Cliffs. Datu Town is isolated by nature, and Gina grew up with very limited access to the world. As a kid, she wanted to do nothing but travel, travel, travel. If she wasn't at school, she was exploring the mountains and getting as far down the routes out of town as she could before her parents caught up. This behaviour didn't stop, and the longer her parents made her wait to start her Pokemon adventure, the more antsy she got. It wasn't a surprise to her parents when she came home hugging a struggling Pidove to her chest, begging to keep it. They, reluctantly, agreed to let her train the pokemon as long as she would stop trying to rush out of town. Gina, equally reluctant, agreed and kept to Datu for a bit longer, but no one could stop her from climbing every rock and tree she could find footing on.
After the Pidove evolved the first time, Gina's parent's finally gave their blessing for her pokemon journey and let her loose on the next Creation Day. The girl was absolutely non stop, invading the personal space of every bird's nest she could find and battling every trainer that would even kind of sort of agree. She lost a lot of battles (most of them, actually) but kept training and learning from her mistakes, developing her own battle tactics along the way. Battling random trainers taught her a lot, but regardless of how smart Gina thought she was, her first gym battle was an absolute embarrassment. Losing had never quite served up such a large slice of humble pie, but Gina's not the type to give up. Instead, she went straight to the nearest mountain she could find and honed her craft. The embarrassment still haunts her lonely nights, but it instilled a determination as firey as her hair in her heart. That's not to say she never lost a battle again, she lost many, but each was a better battle than the last.
With her knack for thinking on the fly, and her persistent training on mountain tops, Gina advanced through the Konah League rather quickly. She made it all the way to the top, eight badges stored proudly in her bag, Victory Road behind her and nothing to keep her from claiming the title of Champion... Except for, maybe, the Champion. Multiple times. There was no better place to train than Victory Road, but no matter how hard she worked the Champion was always better. She had been through the building so many times that she'd gotten on a first name basis with most of the Elites. It was a shock to all of them when Gina finally announced that she had given up for the time being, but she vowed she'd be back. And she was. After a few months of spending quality time in the cliffs she grew up around, the League mailed her and offered her the spot of Datu's gym leader. A couple months and many gym battles later, Gina took a week to travel back through Victory Road. She was ready to challenge the Champion again, and determined to win.
She didn't, and you should have seen the look on her face when she lost. Imagine something torn between burning hatred and absolute devastation, you'll be in the right ball park. It was clear she'd never be the Konah Champion, but when one of the Elite 4 decided to retire, she was first on the list to take their place.
Her starter Pokemon, a Pidove named Gerald, recently passed of old age. She visits him at the Pokemon Tower regularly. She misses him, but she's not sad. They had good times together, and he lived a good life. Gina will preach the importance of friendship between pokemon and trainer until the pidoves come home. It's best not to let yourself get roped into one of these lectures, they can literally last hours.
